BeBook Neo introduced at $299

Shipping soon is the BeBook Neo, which while a far cry from the LiquaVista color reader they were talking about at CES, but still an interesting device, apparently a rebranded Boox 60.

At a pre-order price of $299, one immediately has to wonder if it has enough to compete with Sony, B&N and Amazon, but it does seem to carry some interesting features.

It will carry WiFi, but alas - no 3G. In addition to book store access, it will access Google, Wikipedia and other sites. The interesting aspect is the book store access - they claim to point you to any number of stores, rather than force you into theirs.

Other notable specifications include:

  • Weighs two-thirds of a pound.
  • Only 512mb built in, but an SD card is available.
  • Wacom touch technology.
  • USB OTG support, which presumably would let the device copy files off a flash drive without a computer as an intermediary, for example.
  • Lithium ION battery good for "7,000 page turns".
  • Freescale processor promising impressive speed.
No mention on their website as to file formats supported, but a device promising open access to multiple stores almost certainly supports PDF and ePub, with ADE DRM.
