Foyles' Digital Manager on the state of eBooks

eBookmagazine (a UK publication) has an interview with Eoin O'Reilly, the Digital Manager for Foyles, a large London based retailer. Some interesting points:

  1. They have 60,000 eBooks versus 180,000 print in their flagship store.
  2. He acknowledges ePub as an important way to not restrict the market to one retailer / one device.
  3. He suspects eBook pricing will come down, more in line with paperbacks over time.
  4. He notes that it's harder for retailers to price eBooks, since unlike with physical books you can't reduce your acquisition price by volume.
  5. He feels it's unrealistic long-term for publishers to delay eBook publishing to protect and preserve hardcover sales, and fears it will help piracy take hold.
All-in-all, a great read.
