Amazon churns out strong 4Q results

Amazon turned out some impressive results in the fourth quarter:

  • 71% skyrocket in earnings for the quarter, buoyed by a strong Christmas sales season.
  • Earnings of $384 million for the quarter compared to $225 million the prior year.
  • Earnings of 85 cents per share compared to analyst estimates of 72 cents per share.
  • While they still don't release sales numbers, they now say that there are "millions of Kindles" and that 6 Kindle books are sold for every 10 print books on Amazon.com in cases where both editions are available.
