ASUS DR-950 9 inch eReader with Sipix screen imminent

Not 24 hours after news of the DR 570 hit the web comes word that Asus has the DR-950 even closer to shipping. With a marvelous looking Sipix screen and a touchscreen on top, the system will have a 9" screen at 1024x768 resolution (16 shades of grey), text to speech, a web browser, handwriting recognition and virtual keyboard for input, an RSS reader and a dictionary with translation support.

Wrapping up the specs are 4gb of internal memory, WiFi and 3G, SD card slot and a headphone jack. Oddly, it lists unprotected ePub as a format but also supports Audible. One can only assume if they have Audible support, DRM eBook support will land once they find a content partner.

No word on pricing, but if I were Sony, I'd hate to see all these touch screen devices hitting the market, especially if a few of them land for less than $399 and support something like Kobo with it's far cheaper eBooks.
