Business Week is reporting that the New York Times is creating an electronic editions business unit, dedicated on electronic content and profitability. This is a logical extension of their announcement that they are returning to a paid content offering on their web site as early as 2011 as well as the sales of electronic editions of the paper to users on Sony, Barnes and Noble and Amazon readers.
Yasmin Namini has been tapped to head up the new division, his former role in the organization was that of Senior VP of Marketing and Circulation.
Yasmin has a long history with the Times, starting in 1984 as a sales representative. In 1999, she served as Vice President of Circulation Marketing following several management roles within the organization. Between 2000 and 2005 she held roles at The Boston Globe and New England Media Group, before returning to the Times in early 2006 as Chief Customer Officer.
