Terence Eden
reviews the Elonex 511EB, a 5" eReader sold at Waterstones, a popular UK bookstore chain. At £129.99, it's a fair bit more affordable than a Kindle, although it does lack wireless. Supporting ePub and Adobe Digital Editions, it will be fairly easy to fill with books. While the packaging looked a bit spartan, and the font choice less than ideal (Arial or Times New Roman), it did come with a 4gb SanDisk card, a USB cable and a pair of headphones, plus 100 free eBooks. It even has rudimentary text-to-speech.
The review was published sometime in December, and he's recently
updated it with some additional information. The only thing that gives me pause is the horrendous line wrapping bugs that seem to plague so many of the low cost eReaders on the market.
If budget were an absolute issue (and I lived on the other side of the pond), this device would certainly get my attention, especially knowing it's sold by a large retailer.
