Reuters reports on five of France's largest booksellers calling on publishers (and government) to band together and form a single platform and mechanism for French consumers to purchase content. (Hat tip: TeleRead who themselves credits CrunchGear for finding the story.)
Unless you love monopolies, this seems like a poorly conceived plan. The way to prevent one company from dominating, is to encourage other players to compete - not to form your own government sponsored monopoly. If Amazon, Google and Apple all invade France with eBook stores, chances are you'll have a few options, since none of those companies have a recent history for failure!
