Universities holding off on Kindle due to accessibility

The LA Times is reporting that the Justice Department has settled with Pace University (New York), Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland) and Reed College (Portland, Oregon) to have the schools not promote Amazon's Kindle (or other devices) until accessibility for the blind improves.

It would seem with universities becoming interested in eTextbooks and blind organizations being interested in preserving equal access to materials in printed or electronic form that the first major manufacturer to create a voice driven interface may have a huge leg up. With Amazon having text-to-speech on many titles already, they have an early lead, although I would imagine a future device release would be required to incorporate a microphone.
