Amazon Kindle application pricing

Apparently, developers will be able to distribute free applications - if they keep their wireless data usage in check. The pricing models:

  • Applications that are under 1 megabyte in size, and use 100kb or less in data per month can be offered free. Of course developers can also choose to charge for them:
  • One-time purchase - applications are use under 100kb per month in data can be offered as a one-time purchase application.
  • Monthly subscription - the model best suited for applications with heavy data usage.
Amazon will give an Apple-esque 70% / 30% split to developers, less $0.15 per megabyte in data charges.
