According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is working on electronic textbooks, new ways to display newspaper and magazine content on portable devices (poor Skiff), working with The New York Times on how they might reintroduce paid content and still toying with (and trying to convince industry executives to allow) a subscription TV service.
They are also reported at making a non-iTunes dependent version of their store, allowing buy buttons to be embedded on other websites and for the conclusion of transactions without opening iTunes.
