Forbes on Prime View International and Taiwan's role in the manufacturing of eReaders

Joyce Huang, writing for Forbes has a pretty good read on the fortunes of Prime View International, which controls roughly 90% of the eReader business thanks to their successful acquisition of E Ink Corp. Forbes cites the eReader market as a billion dollar (US) industry in 2009 that's expected to double in 2010.

Taiwan is trying to foster the island's involvement in this manufacturing process, offering $67 million in subsidies over the next five year's to hardware, software and publishers related to the field.

Challenges sited include the emergence of competing products from companies such as AU Optronics and SiPix Imaging. No doubt the threat from Pixel Qi, Liquavista and Qualcomm's Mirasol will be a factor as well.
